When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
*Teacher or wedding planner
What was the best course you took in school that helps you today in your career?
*Vocational office education and computer math classes in high school. Both of these teachers were instrumental in talking me out of quitting school in my Junior year, and I'm so glad they were successful.
What do you do for fun?
*Spend time with my 3 sons who are 20, 18 and 16, my husband, family and friends. Organize and chair the Bikers Against Breast Cancer ride for The Rose, a non-profit breast cancer organization. I also love watching DIY shows.
Do you have any hints for girls as they select a career?
*Remember to think outside the box. We all do not start off with our dream job or career, but hard work and taking pride in a job well done can get you places. Ask for what you want in a job and do not wait for others to give it to you.
Talk to counselors about college. I do regret not going to college, but to make up for it later, I obtained a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation.
What are your favorite books to read over the summer?
*I remember reading the Flowers in the Attic series and loving it.

Social Worker
I provide educational/financial literacy presentations to limited resource populations (homeless, battered women, etc.) and young adults for the Better Business Bureau Education Foundation. I have worked in the non-profit sector since 1995. Prior to becoming a social worker, I was a freelance fashion and commercial photographer for 15 years.
In 2002, I co-founded FireSeeds, a non-profit organization dedicated to giving underdeveloped communities a hand up to independence. They currently work in partnership with Africa Greater Life Mission in Kampala, Uganda, helping an orphans and widows village, and I frequently travel to East Africa to work with local project leaders.

- I believe I said I wanted to be a veterinarian
- As much as I hate to admit it, my Speech class! I had a great communications professor. I learned a lot in that class.
- In the evenings, I like to read before I go to bed. I read different kinds of books. Some are self-help, some are fiction and for pure entertainment. My favorite books to read are detective/murder mysteries. My favorite author of these types of books is Janet Evanovich. She writes about a bounty hunter named Stephanie Plum and her escapades. The author throws in humor along with solving a murder. Otherwise, for fun I go to watch the Astros play. I play golf. I go to movies.
- The average person will have five different careers in one lifetime. Try and think out of the box and find something that is your passion. Make your passion your career. Then it won't seem like work at all.
- Anything by Janet Evanovich!
I always wanted to be a biologist, but somewhere along the line, I changed my mind.

Exercise, cooking, travel, and spend time with friends and family.
Research the career you are considering and interview people in those fields. It is important to truly understand as much as you can about a career before spending the time and money pursuing a degree that gets you to your goal. It is good to volunteer to work at careers you are considering to determine if your choice is right for you. I also recommend you honestly review your strengths and weaknesses to determine if you have the innate skills to go the distance. Ask for help, counseling, guidance and you will receive it.
My summer reads include classics like Pride and Prejudice.
I always thought I would be an accountant, I loved math. Now I use my math skills to order items, to keep inventory and to do cost analysis for events.

My English classes were probably the most beneficial because they taught me how to communicate by reading and writing effectively.
I like to play with my daughter, Lauren, drink wine, read books, travel and go on long walks.
It is okay to not know what you want to do when you get older. Keep trying out new things and keep an open mind. You may have to eliminate a lot of things you dont like before you find what you do.

Legal Environments of Business, Project Management and Economics
Spending time with my friends and family, traveling all over the world. I am also very fortunate that I do sometimes consider working something I do for fun!
Take your time and explore many areas. Research the industries you are interested in, even those you think you could never do. Dont pigeon hole yourself into are area just because you think you ought, are expected to or because it is the family business.
I love legal and murder mysteries - Brad Meltzer, Scott Turow, John Grisham. Currently I am in the middles of the series by deceased Swedish author Stieg Larsson - The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire(the one I am on now), and The Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest.

When it comes to reading always push yourself and never settle on one genre. Try ready a biographical novel about someone who sounds intriguing, then a chic lit easy read, then a suspense thriller. You can never read enough of the classics, nor books based on actual historic events. Reading can broaden ones mind like none other.
