When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?When I was a sophomore in high school I took my first Biology class and from that point forward I was focused on becoming a marine biologist. I majored in Aquatic Biology in college and then did research in a lab and ended up being published in a leading scientific journal. Then I decided I wanted to do something else for a career. I went into sales. What was the best course you took in school that helps you today in your career? While I was in the scientific community I drew upon many of the courses I had taken in college like Organic Chemistry and Statistics. Since my college curriculum was so focused on classes in the math and science areas, I'm not sure which of them has really supported my career in Sales and Management. What I would say is that these courses really made you think, use logic to solve problems and work together to achieve a result. Those three things are critical to success in whatever field you choose. What do you do for fun?I love to go out into my workshop and build things!! Sometimes I work with wood - my last two projects were an outside bench for the patio and a really cool 3 foot long candle holder.Do you have any hints for girls as they select a career?Do what you love! You'll spend a good portion of your life working, so be sure you are finding the joy in that work every day!!What are your favorite books to read over the summer?I love to read crime fiction and horror books. I also enjoy historical fiction.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a little girl, my two favorite games to play were school, and "business"...I would pretend to be a teacher, making lesson plans, and teaching my dolls. I also played store; making prices, charts, stuff like that.
What was the best course in school you took that helps you today?
I loved my core classes in high school that gave me a broad range of knowledge and catapulted my desire to learn.
Duh, reading of course! I also study ballet, different languages, and yoga.
Find something you enjoy and/or are good at, and you will never have to "work" a day in your life.

Research the career you are considering and interview people in those fields. It is important to truly understand as much as you can about a career before spending the time and money pursuing a degree that gets you to your goal. It is good to volunteer to work at careers you are considering to determine if your choice is right for you. I also recommend you honestly review your strengths and weaknesses to determine if you have the innate skills to go the distance. Ask for help, counseling, guidance and you will receive it.
My summer reads include classics like Pride and Prejudice.
