When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I don't remember wanting to be anything in particular. I wanted to be just like Carol Burnett and Jeannie from "I Dream of Jeannie" so maybe an actress.
What was the best course you took in school that helps you today in your career?
Every course that required reading and writing. If you write well and you are well read, you can do anything you set your mind to.
What do you do for fun?
I spend time with my family and friends. I love the beach, reading non-fiction, cooking and going to basebal games. I'm completely in love with baseball!
Do you have any hints for girls as they select a career?
Do something you love -- something you are passionate about. Money doesn't buy happiness so don't choose a job because you think you will make a lot of money. Even if you do make a lot of money, if you're not happy the money will be meaningless. Don't be afraid to change your mind. If you change your mind, change directions!
What are your favorite books to read over the summer?
My favorite book is Alice in Wonderland! I still have the 'pop up' version my mother gave me 40 years ago.

Never listen to anyone who tells you that you cant do something because you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. It takes a strong person to stand tall and be a leader. Work hard and set goals for yourself and you will go far.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I actually wanted to be a veterinarian because I have loved animals since I can remember! My love for animals began as a small child. My first pets were the family goldfish. I got my very first dog at the age of 10, He was a 2 month old German Shepherd / Husky puppy whom I named Handsome because he was so beautiful. He lived to be 13 and I will never forget how much he taught me and how much he made me love animals even more than I already had.
What was the best course in school you took that helps you today?
Im a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. I spent the majority of my career as a broadcaster in television and radio. In addition, I have an acting background as well as I have attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles and the Houston Academy of Dramatic Arts right here in Houston. I believe my experience and coursework in writing, broadcasting, and acting have been an assest in helping to find creative ways to be a voice to the voiceless at the Houston SPCA.
I love to spend time with my pets, friends and family. My favorite hobby is traveling because I get to learn something new with every place I visit, whether its another state or country! I also enjoy reading, working out, shopping, and relaxing and watching my favorite TV shows.
Do what you love and you will always be a star at what you do. Never pick a career just because you believe it will make your rich, because it may also make you very unhappy. Pick a career you have passion for! Take some time to think about what makes you happy, do you like science, math, writing, or do you like sports? I have been fortunate to have loved every job Ive had in my career because I have a passion for what I do. Working at the Houston SPCA is the best job I have ever had because I have the honor of being a voice to all animals and lending them a helping hand so they may have a happy ending.
Your favorite book to read over the summer?
I enjoy reading books that are true stories or that are positive, uplifting and have a message I can share with others and refer back to myself.

No matter what people or family want you to be, your life is your life. Be happy about yourself and enjoy life as much as possible. Please yourself, take care of yourself and realize there is a big world out there and you can see it if you want. If you wait for others to have time, money or the guts to do what you want you will wait for a long time and life will pass you by. How do you want to be remembered?

Research the career you are considering and interview people in those fields. It is important to truly understand as much as you can about a career before spending the time and money pursuing a degree that gets you to your goal. It is good to volunteer to work at careers you are considering to determine if your choice is right for you. I also recommend you honestly review your strengths and weaknesses to determine if you have the innate skills to go the distance. Ask for help, counseling, guidance and you will receive it.
My summer reads include classics like Pride and Prejudice.
